Focus and Scope

The Brazilian Scientific Journal of Health and Medicine (RBMED) aims to disseminate high-quality scientific research, analyses, and reflections that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in health and medicine, strengthening national and international academic production and expanding the social impact of scientific knowledge.

RBMED publishes articles addressing topics relevant to clinical practice, primary health care, family and community medicine, and other health professionals working across different levels of care.

In addition to original research, the journal promotes scientific and professional exchange through clinical reviews, case reports, experience reports, and perspective articles.

RBMED considers unpublished original articles that are not under evaluation by other journals, except for translated articles that comply with editorial guidelines.

Peer Review Process

After submission, manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment regarding scope, compliance with author guidelines, absence of plagiarism or misconduct, and scientific and linguistic quality.

Eligible manuscripts are sent to two or more ad hoc reviewers with expertise in the subject and/or methodology. Final publication decisions rest exclusively with the editors.

RBMED operates a double-blind peer review system. All interactions are mediated by editors via the journal’s electronic platform.

Reviewers work under strict confidentiality. Peer review reports and pre-publication versions are not published.

Conflicts of Interest

RBMED follows the ICMJE definition of conflicts of interest. Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any potential conflicts and recuse themselves when appropriate.

Authorship and Contributions

RBMED adopts ICMJE authorship criteria. Authorship requires meeting all four criteria: substantial contribution, manuscript drafting or revision, final approval, and accountability.

Contributors who do not meet all criteria must be acknowledged. Authorship responsibility lies collectively with the authors.

The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the editorial office.

Research Ethics

Research involving humans must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki (2013) and applicable ethical regulations, including ethics committee approval and informed consent.

Participant confidentiality must be preserved. Animal research must follow ethical guidelines such as those of CONCEA.

Open Data and Reproducibility

RBMED adopts Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP) guidelines.

Authors are encouraged to cite datasets and code, provide data-sharing statements, follow EQUATOR Network reporting guidelines, and preregister clinical trials.

Replication studies are encouraged.

Publication Frequency

RBMED follows a continuous publication model, publishing articles individually upon acceptance and final editing.

Open Access Policy

RBMED is an open-access journal and publishes all articles immediately under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) license.

Authors may archive the final published version in institutional or personal repositories.

Archiving and Digital Preservation

RBMED ensures long-term digital preservation through PKP Preservation Network, ZENODO, Crossref, and LOCKSS. The journal is archived in accordance with Brazilian Law No. 10,994/2004 at the National Library.
